Seven Bishops conducted to Trial. 1688. On June 29 and June 30, 1688, seven bishops were brought to trial before the Court of King's Bench on a charge of seditious libel. The previous April 18, King James II had re-issued his Declaration of Indulgence, and on May 4 he had published an order that the Declaration be read out in every church in the country.
