Mary Queen of Scots (1542 - 1587) with her Italian private secretary, courtier and musician David Rizzio (c. 1533 - 1566), circa 1565. He quickly became the Queen's favourite but his enemies, who included Mary's husband Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley and half brother James Stuart, Earl of Moray, wanted him removed from court and Rizzio was stabbed him 57 times on 9th March 1566 in the Queen's antechamber at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
