A 25 cent coin from the United States. This is pre-1999 Washington quarter (specifically 1980 - although the year has been removed in the illustration). The Washington Quarter was first minted in 1932, to commemorate the 200th birthday of George Washington, widely regarded as the father of the United States. It was intended to be a one year special coin, but remains with us today, more than 75 years later. This is NOT one of the newer state-oriented quarter designs (which are not in the public domain).
